MCM want to hear from people who have experience in the justice system and/or have a disability.

The Allied Health team from Melbourne City Mission (MCM). MCM and Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) are working together on 2 projects. These projects have been funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services and the Department of Justice and Community and Safety.

They want to hear from people who have experience in the justice system and/or have a disability.

Individuals will be given a $50 gift card per hour for their time.

How you can be involved:

  • Provide feedback to the team on the proposed SSTAR tool and related resources
  • Small group or 1:1 meetings
  • One or more meetings

Meetings will be virtual and held in late April and May 2024. Meeting dates and times are flexible.

Email DART@mcm.org.au to express your interest.

About the projects:

To assist young people to access supports (e.g. NDIS), create better outcomes, and reduce re-offending.

SSTAR: Disability Screen, Support, Treatment, Advice Response tool
A screening tool to identify whether young people may/may not have a disability.
We want your input on this tool that has been created.
It is important that the tool is accessible, inclusive, and culturally safe.

DART: Disability Advice Response Team
The DART team will take referrals through the court and use the SSTAR tool.
If a disability is indicated from the SSTAR tool, assessments can be completed through the DART program.
DART will also advise the court and young person of appropriate supports and recommendations, such as NDIS access.
