Nearly one million Victorians have a disability and they are more likely to experience disadvantage than the rest of the population.

DARU works with organisations to promote and protect the rights of people with disability. We develop and distribute resources to keep disability advocates up to date and informed about issues affecting people with disability in Victoria.

Come to DARU for resources on:

  • Disability discrimination law
  • Safeguarding the rights of people with disability
  • Applying a human rights approach to advocacy

DARU offers:

  • Online directory of organisations providing contact and referral information
for agencies which deliver disability advocacy, disability service providers,
    and consumer groups
  • DARU Update, a weekly e-bulletin which highlights the week’s disability-related
news items, links to government and other inquiries, information about systemic
advocacy campaigns, work and funding opportunities, events and training
  • Hundreds of online resources and publications, including captioned and
audio-described videos on how to get the most out of the site
  • Forums, workshops and information sessions to develop the skills, experience
    and knowledge of disability advocates
  • Strengthening Disability Advocacy conference to build disability advocacy
in Victoria through networking and information sharing
  • Toolkits to assist disability advocates in the application and process of advocacy
  • Information sheets and quick reference guides
