NDIS roll out and review

Geraldine Doogue interviewed John Dellabosca, head of the Every Australian counts campaign, about the recent advertisement for new Board members to the NDIA

John:

Geraldine:
Why, John?

John:
I think for a long time the principle problem with disability is not people with a disability but everybody else. The idea of the social model of disability, that is, that the extra disablement that occurs to people occurs because of the way they are perceived and the way they are treated in society. One of the catch phrases, it’s not just a catch phrase, it’s an approach to governance is “Nothing about us without us”. Which it means to say that, if you are going to be making decisions, the big policy decisions about disability, then people with a disability need to be part of that decision making, and not treated as if they were simply the subject of the decisions, but they were also part of the decisions.
