Union fears rushed disability services tender for Sandhurst residents

A union leader says an 18-day tender period for new disability services in Bendigo is rushed and lacks detail.

The Victorian Government has advertised tenders for private operators hoping to provide services to residents of the Sandhurst Centre after the facility closes in 2016.

The Minister, Mary Wooldridge, says running the tender process much sooner than planned will give Sandhurst residents, their families and staff the certainty they have been calling for.

However, the Health and Community Services Union’s Lloyd Williams says the process is morally corrupt.

“It takes them 56 days to tender for stretchers for the ambulance service and 54 days to tender for emergency patient transport,” he said.

“To do this in 18 days just smacks of politics.”

Ms Wooldridge is due to visit Bendigo today to announce funding to help country sporting clubs deal with drug use.
