Travellers Aid Australia provides travel related support, advice and help to people who experience difficulties with transport. Travellers Aid Australia aims to make everyday travel possible for all people, providing services such as:
- buggy service at Southern Cross Station to assist people get to and from their point of departure (free of charge to client)
- medical companions to accompany people to and from medical appointments (free of charge to client)
- free personal care for people with a disability
- travel related emergency relief
- low cost mobility equipment hire
- fully accessible toilets (including hoist available at Flinders Street Station)
- no interest loans for half-yearly and yearly travel passes for primary and secondary students
- showers and sleeping rooms that can be used by people who are older, frail or sick, nursing mothers or just tired travellers
Travellers Aid is a not-for-profit organisation and has been providing service to travellers since 1916. Core clients include:
- Senior Australians
- People living with a disability
- Travellers at the point of need
Programs are supported by funding from the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments under the HACC program (Buggy Service & Personal Care Service). Further funding is achieved from Philanthropic trusts, bequests and fund raising drives.
