Forum: Opportunities for an inclusive housing system

Since the decision on 30 April this year by the Building Ministers Meeting to include the Livable Housing Provisions (Silver Level) as mandatory requirements in the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022, the NSW and South Australian Governments have opted to continue with their voluntary approach.

The forum will challenge the decision of NSW and SA to opt out, by considering:

  • The benefits to consumers of a unified, national approach to accessibility in housing
  • The benefits to the building industry and suppliers of uniform regulation across jurisdictions
  • How supportive jurisdictions will implement the NCC from September 2022
  • How building professionals can adapt to develop housing to the new guidelines

Speakers include:

  • The Hon. Rebecca Vassarotti, ACT Minister for Sustainable Building and Construction
  • Dr Margaret Ward PSM, Co-Convenor, Australian Network on Housing Design (ANUHD)
  • Mr Neil Savery, CEO, Australian Building Codes Board
  • Mr Andrew Kerec, Director, Renaissance Building and Design Pty Ltd, ACT
  • Mr Alistair Webster, Campaign Director, Building Better Homes Campaign
  • Mr Michael Fox AM, Chair Rights & Inclusion Australia
