Australian Guardianship and Administration Council conference: Putting rights into practice

While the laws around guardianship and administration vary from state to state, Australia’s Public Advocates, Public Guardians, Public or State Trustees and the heads of State and Territory adult guardianship tribunal lists meet regularly to discuss common issues and ways that the rights of people with cognitive disability are being implemented, and the work that still needs to be done in this regard.

Topics that will be discussed at the conference include:

  • Financial elder abuse
  • People with acquired brain injuries and the criminal justice system
  • Deprivations of liberty of people with disability
  • Supported decision-making developments
The changing nature of adult guardianship
  • The performance of the NDIS in relation to hard-to-reach groups
  • Indigenous perspectives on guardianship and advance planning
  • Modern adult safeguarding developments
  • Aged care after the Royal Commission
  • Enduring powers of attorney reforms.
