Risk Management & DHS Standards Information Session

On Wednesday 17 October, DARU hosted a Risk Assessment and Standards information Session for disability advocacy organisations.

The session on Risk Management was presented by Diane Borgmeyer, Risk Management Adviser, from VMIA and covered:

  • Introduction to risk management – the basics
  • A quick overview of the risk management standard – AS/NZS/ISO 31000:2009
  • The new DHS service level agreement risk management requirements
  • Strategy, strategic thinking and why it’s important for risk management
  • Applying risk management
  • Tips, Tricks and Concepts

The session on DHS Standards was presented by Anna Barnes from DHS Standards and Regulations Unit and covered:

  • Overview of standards
  • Independent review and service agreement requirements
  • Scope of independent review
  • Activities in scope for review
  • independent review bodies
  • The review and planning for the review

Participants were provided with a resource pack containing:

  • Department of Human Services Standards Evidence Guide
  • Department of Human Services Fact Sheets on review requirements, activities in scope and independent review model.
