Make sure you have a say in this consultation process. It will be vital to have a mental health perspective in this initiative. Don’t delay in registering to attend one of VICSERV’s consultation sessions below. The Human Services and Health Partnership Implementation Committee (HSHPIC), co-chaired by VCOSS and DHHS, is supporting the industry to prepare for changes brought about by commonwealth and state reforms, including the Royal Commission into Family Violence, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the Roadmap for Reform: Strong families, safe children and other evolving trends. The work of this committee in partnership with the community sector includes the development a 10-year plan for the industry and the release of a discussion paper. The discussion paper is high level and explores a vision for the community services industry and its challenges and opportunities. It also proposes 10 priority areas for planning. While the community mental health sector will have much expertise and experience to feed into the discussion paper, its response is likely to be complicated by the cessation of its funding as the NDIS rolls out. For this sector, consideration of a future community sector may raise some specific questions about how the industry maintains and develops expertise in mental health and the health and community services interface. To this end, VICSERV is conducting a focussed consultation for the community mental health sector to explore:
- Issues with the industry service plan.
- Opportunities and challenges in the delivery of mental health support/ risks for people with a mental illness in selected priority areas.
We see this as an important opportunity to provide the mental health perspective on the future of community services and place of mental health in the context of the broader reforms. We encourage you to participate by attending one of the following sessions:
- Monday 13 November, 10 am – 12.30 pm, Bendigo, Murray PHN, 36 Rowen St.
- Wednesday 15 November, 10 am – 12.30 pm, VICSERV, Level 2, 22 Horne St, Elsternwick
