City of Greater Dandenong Libraries is partnering with local organisations Burke & Beyond and The Bridge to develop a self-employment program for people with intellectual disability.
Participants from Burke & Beyond and The Bridge will develop the project using a co-design process. The project aims to support people to become self-employed.
Training will be provided that directly supports the participants’ individual self-employment goals. Resources from Council and State Government will be introduced to participants. Networking opportunities will also be provided. Mentors will be sourced and matched with participants.
A project toolkit will be developed after the co-design process. The toolkit will be used to run the project at other public libraries in the future.
A steering committee will oversee the development, delivery and evaluation of the project.
The project will become part of the small business programs the library offers.
We are seeking expressions of interest for a facilitator who will be responsible for the following:
- running co-design sessions with participants from The Bridge and Burke & Beyond
- developing a micro-enterprise/small business training program
- developing a toolkit for CGD libraries and other public libraries to repeat the program in the future
- attend steering committee meetings and incorporate feedback into co-design process and program and toolkit development
- deliver the training program one day a week over ten weeks from October – December 2024
- continuously evaluate the program
Skills and experience – desirable:
- Cert IV Training and Assessment and/or teaching experience
- Co-design experience
- Curriculum development experience
- Lived experience or experience working with people with intellectual disability
- Small business/micro-enterprise experience
- Program evaluation experience
- Understanding of Social Model of Disability
- Understanding of the guiding principle ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’
