Cost of New Wheelchair-friendly Taxi Licences for Outer Melbourne to Increase by $5000 in New Law Changes

The cost of new wheelchair-friendly taxi licences for outer Melbourne will increase by $5000 in law changes designed to appease rogue independent MP Geoff Shaw and some Coalition backbenchers.

Legislation that passed State Parliament’s Lower House had a $17,000 licence price tag for a new conventional cab that services suburbs such as Frankston and Dandenong, and $13,400 for a new wheelchair-accessible licence.

Changes to the Bill, introduced yesterday, would see the price rise to $22,000 for a conventional licence and $18,400 for wheelchair-accessible plates.
