19 Stories of inclusion and the right to independent living

Why 19 stories? Because Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities refers to the right to live independently and participate in the community. Australia has ratified the Convention and under Article 19, it must ensure:

the equal right of all persons with disabilities to live in the community, with choices equal to others, and [must] take effective and appropriate measures to facilitate full enjoyment by persons with disabilities of this right and their full inclusion and participation in the community.

We  know that too many Australians with disabilities are excluded and marginalised. By sharing the many ways Australians with disabilities belong and contribute to their communities, we see what people have done along the way to create successful social inclusion.
