DARU is a statewide service established to resource the disability advocacy sector in Victoria.
The resources that DARU provides aims to support the Disability Advocacy sector and Disability Advocates through disseminating relevant and up to date information, organising forums around the state so that there is a coordinated approach to issues of concern, providing professional development opportunities and undertaking capacity building projects on behalf of the sector.
DARU is accountable to a Governance Group (DGG). The DGG is made up of members from its two auspicing agencies, Victorian Council of Social Services (VCOSS) and Disability Advocacy Victoria (DAV), the Office for Disability and the DARU Coordinator.

DARU runs forums and training that offers Disability Advocates an opportunity to step back, reflect on work practices, network and be challenged. Our events are provided by highly qualified, experienced presenters with a good understanding of the disability advocacy sector.
DARU promotes inclusion for people with disability; ensuring that all venues and materials are accessible.
Our Events Calendar also includes training workshops, conferences, forums and other information sharing and professional development opportunities from other providers that might be of interest to disability advocates and the broader disability sector.
The DARU Organisation Directory provides contact and referral information for the disability advocacy organisations operating in Victoria along with other agencies that provide useful resources to the work of disability advocacy.
Every two years DARU partners with the Self Advocacy Resource Unit (SARU) and Disability Advocacy Victoria (DAV) to host the Strengthening Disability Advocacy Conference.
This conference provides topical research papers, policy development and networking opportunities for the sector and links to broader social policy and generic advocacy.
The last conference was held at Melbourne Park in August 2014. Find out what happened at the conference website.
